Is This Letter from a Barrister in England a Scam?

My nephew has received communication in email and an actual letter from someone claiming to be a Barrister in England…saying that someone who died in the Tsunami has an estate to be settled….the person has the same last name as my nephew and the “Barrister” is asking information from my nelhew so he can forward him an inheritance. I have told him is is a scam….but he will not believe me…can you please send me a response so I can let him know more about this….

Thank You

Dear KCBabb,

This is almost certainly a variation on the classic “419” or “NIgerian” scam (note that location makes not difference, and the scammer does not have to be in Nigeria!)

Have your nephew read some of the information out there on 419 scams, such as this from The Internet Patrol.
