Someone recently complained that they had just upgraded to the most recent version of Spam Assassin (3.0.1), and that suddenly their mail server seemed to be experiencing a huge amount of disk activity, their available memory had plummeted, and their server was often crawling at a snail’s pace. This can, they explained, be very frustrating.
Indeed, I have experienced this same problem, and it ain’t pretty. Particularly when you are trying to do work on the server, or when it impacts your websites’ visitors ability to quickly load pages.
Well, it turns out that this is a known issue, and is indeed related to this version of Spam Assassin. An updated version which addresses this issue is in the works.
So hang in there, and check frequently for a new release.
