According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services (U.S. DHHS), the RDA (recommended dietary allowance) of potassium for an adult is 4,700 milligrams (mg) per day. For children ages 1 to 3 it is 3,000 mg per day, for children ages 4-8 it is 3,800 mg per day, and for children ages 9 to 13 it is 4,00 mg per day.
The RDA does not provide minimum and maximum amounts, they are recommended amounts.
