How Can I Propagate an Azalea from a Cutting?

I would like to know how to take a cutting, from say, an Azeala Bush. A little detail would be helpful, such as where to take the cutting from on the bush.

Thanking you in advance, Randy

Dear Randy,

Many plants can be successfully rooted from fresh cuttings. A cutting is, as it sounds, a portion cut from the mother plant to start a new plant. Rooting is the process of taking the cutting, and encourating it to sprout roots, and then planting the new resulting rooted plant.

Azaleas.org is a fantastic ressource, and has a wonderful section on propagation in general, and cuttings in particular. You can find detailed easy-to-follow directions at http://www.azaleas.org/index.pl/azpropagate.html#cut.
